July Family Trip to NH

After going to my one of my oldest and dearest friends wedding on July 4th, we headed up to Lincoln, NH for a family vacation. It was the first one as a foursome. The pic. above is of the place we stayed out , it was at the base of Loon Mountain in the White Mountains of NH. We had a lot of family just hanging out together without much of an agenda. Hannah did a lot of firsts which was fun and Lilah enjoyed the ride as usual.

One of Hannah's favorite days was a ride on the Hobo train which was a real locomotive. She was all prepared with her engineer hat and bandana.

Cloudy Days in NH

In the middle of our trip we hit some cloudy/rainy days so we made the best of it. One of Hannah's new favorite discoveries was made on this trip-DONUTS!!! (Papa will be so happy) She recently had her yearly allergy testing done so it looks like her allergies are improving. We think she is not allergic to eggs anymore (it will be confirmed next week) but she can now eat milk and egg when it is baked into something like a donut, cookie, cake, etc- VERY EXCITING FOR US ALL. No more making a special cupcake to look like the the cupcake at a someone elses birthday party!

Day trip to Loon Mountain-the best day!

For Hannah the highlight of her trip was riding "Zeusy" the horse (not a pony). She rode him at the bottom of Loon Mountain. She loved it so much that we went back the next day just so she could get another ride, she is a brave one.

Summer MO trip to the Lake and Monroe

We headed to MO in the early part of June to meet at the Lake for a week of fun with Mimi and Papa, Kim, Chris, and Livia. Mimi must have been a great storyteller to keep the attention 2 two year olds and a 7 month old.

After a week of "relaxing" at the lake, we headed to Monroe to see the rest of the family. While we were there the cousins celebrated their 1/2 birthdays.

The Bronx Zoo

In May Hannah decided she loved rides, before that she had been scared of the carousel, we were so proud of her and she was so proud of herself.
We went on a trolly to get back to our car and we told Hannah it was a train so that she would be willing to leave the zoo, the "choo, choo" trip was definitely the highlight of the trip-forget the animals:)

Tummy time- Lilah is around 6 months here and keeping her head higher and longer each day. She will do anything her sister does, she watches Hannah nonstop. Hannah has been so good about giving Lilah toys, if you look closely she has given Lilah Boots to hold-that is a big deal!

Easter Weekend Fun

The girls enjoyed lots of stories read by Ama. Knuffle Bunny was definitely a favorite of the weekend.
Their favorite time of day was story time with Dads before sleep. It was the sweetest thing to see. Once again they were reading Knuffle Bunny!

Today was a big day in the Carroll household

Today was big day in the Carroll household. Hannah spontaneously wanted to lay down and cuddle with Lilah and then wanted us to take pictures of them. Of course these are the moments that make all the hard work all worth it. Scott and I had to hold back the tears. We might be very busy these days but we treasure these moments and every day feel fortunate for the amazing girls we have.Hannah and Lilah both Smiling- what a feat!
More smiling-it can't get much cuter! Hannah has been showing such gentle love towards Lilah!
This was the best because Lilah was sticking her fingers in Hannah's mouth and Hannah thought this was hysterical.
This was precious, Hannah wanted Lilah to lay on top of her belly so she could hug her. She held her so carefully and wanted to do it for a long time. It was so sweet!
What a big sister! To think that just a week ago she would only want to hold Lilah for a couple of seconds and then would express, "All done". Today she couldn't get enough of her sister, I think now that Lilah is smiling more and more alert she is starting to see the fun.

Hannah update

Hannah is Daddy's girl these days! I love seeing them interact. Scott is fantastic with her! It is hard these days for to get Daddy time because Scott is in heavy crunch at work. When we can't see him all day we are able to talk to him on the computer and on the phone. She makes sure to tell him, "I love you, Daddy, and I miss you, Daddy". However, When he gets home, she loves her special daddy time. Bath time has become her new favorite thing to do. She is now in the big girl tub without the insert and she loves washing her newest waterproof Aya doll.

Hannah also loves playing "hiding" with us. Her favorite hiding spot is in the nook near our new bathroom and pantry. Scott and I love the addition for other reasons but for Hannah it is a new play area. She is talking more and more every day. She is speaking in simple sentences and cracks us up with her expression and tones. She has a new monster voice that she uses that is hysterical. She has also been putting on concerts for us by singing and playing the piano. She is so full of personality, mostly all fun and amazing, but at times challenging.

She is definitely a 2 year old! She is full of spunk and mischief. We are working on using manners rather than making demands of us and we are working on gentle touching and playing all around (with friends, Lilah, and pets). We know we will work through the present challenges so we are ready for new ones:) I keep reminding myself that we can handle anything as long as we are all healthy!

Lilah is amazing! She issuch a comfortable baby, and generally pretty happy. She is growing so fast. She is 9 weeks old and has become so much more alert. She is around 10 pounds now. She smiles all the time and coos. She definitely likes to be around people and is aware when you leave the room. Her sleeping so far is similar to Hannah at this age-no complaints. She cat naps during the day-30 min. unless we are on the go and then she sleeps longer. This week she has started sleeeping for 8 hours straight, Yeah Lilah!
Hannah for the most part is doing great with her, she shows some interest in holding her and is mostly very sweet to her. However, there have definitely been some jealous moments that we have worked through and we are practicing "gentle" touching.

"Lilee" as Hannah likes to call her (and has quickly become her nickname) is a smiler, especially for her Daddy!

On Christmas Eve we went to Aunt Kris's family's house which was nice since we usually miss their traditions when we are in MO.

A big Scare

Before I start this post let me start by saying everyone is okay and healthy! Thank God!

Soon after we brought Lilah home from the hospital, Hannah seemed to be getting sick with a cold, fever, etc. I started getting nervous that Lilah was going to get sick too. Little did I know that Lilah was not the one to be concerned about. After 8 days of looking paler and paler, and on and off fever and multiple visits to Grandpa Doc. we decided to investigate further and draw blood. Anyway on Dec. 12 we got the blood results and my dad became very concerned that she could have a unusual virus or Leukemia and the only way to know would be to do a bone marrow biopsy. We immediately went to Hackensack Hospital. When we met with the oncologist she felt Hannah was to weak to get a biopsy done that night and first she would need a blood transfusion At that point more tests came back that in fact showed there to be some early cancerus cells and she was diagnosed with Leukemia. That night was hell. In the morning she got the biopsy and to everyone's surprise the biopsy showed that she did not have Leukemia but some virus. The error came from some misreading from another hospital. We could not believe it but were so overjoyed with this miracle we didn't care about the error.
While we were in the hospital our friends and family showed so much love, support, and concern. Everyone's prayers worked!!!!!! Thank you to everyone!
Aunt Kris (along with Grandpa Ed, Ama, and Colleen the doula) did a great job caring for baby Lilah while we were in the hospital. It was hard being away from my 2 week old but I knew I had to be there for Hannah.
Friday night, we came home from the hospital (and thanfully Mimi and Papa arrived from Missouri) after 2 blood tranfusions. We were so thankful to be home even if Hannah was still sick. Finally on Saturday when more blood results came back we learned that what Hannah had was Mono!
These smiles were rare those first days home. Hannah is wearing a bib because her throat was so sore that she couldn't swallow and just walked around drooling because it was too painful to swallow. Finally by Tuesday after a couple of days of very high fever, Hannah bounced back and started to feel better! We feel so blessed to have 2 healthy girls. This experience definitely put life in perspective for us!

Happy Halloween

For Hannah, this year Halloween didn't just come on Friday, her festivities started on Tuesday when we went to Scott's work Halloween party. On Thursday she dressed up for a playgroup Halloween party. Then on Friday she dressed up once again to go trick-or-treating with Ama and me and then we met up with her friends downtown Teaneck to do more trick-or-treating. She quickly got the hang of going door to door and saying "treat" and opening her bag and then getting candy and saying thank you "ding du".

So as you will see Hannah was a CAT. We felt this was only appropriate since "CAT" was her first word and since she loves her cats. As you will see below, thoughout this week, she had many opportunities to show all a cat's many personality traits, attitudes, and emotions.

Halloween started for us on Tuesday when we went to Scott's Work Halloween party at Blue Sky. Hannah quickly got the strange but fun concept of going from cubicle to cubicle looking cute and in return getting candy.

We had a great time at Doc Davies Farm this year, it was suppose to rain all day and it did , except for the hour we went picking so it worked out perfectly. The only thing missing was Mimi and Papa. Last year they were here for the annual apple picking festivities but their fall trip is being postponed till baby Carroll #2 comes (a pretty good reason!). However, I have included some pictures from last year to show how much our Hannah Banana has grown in a year.

Scott and I went away to Cape May for the weekend, our last get away alone before we are the parents of two. Of course the weekend we booked months ago ironically, ends up being the weekend of Tropical Storm "Hanna" . We were determined not to let "Hanna" ruin it:). We lucked out and stayed in this amazing hotel and despite the weather on Sat. we had a fantastic time relaxing and enjoying each other.
This was the beach in front of the hotel before Hanna hit on Saturday. Fortunately, Sunday was georgeous and we able to take full advantage of the beach.
Finally.... we took a picture of me pregnant, it only took 28 weeks!

Although we had a great time, we missed our Hannah while she took full advantage of Grammy time!

Last week Grammy came with us to visit Aunt Meggy and Aunt Phyllis in Seagirt. We stayed overnight and had so much fun. Hannah is still not sure of the sand, but she loved going in the ocean.

As You can see we were not quite prepared the 1st day for Hannah to go in the ocean, but she couldn't get enough the bigger the wave the better!
The one thing she liked doing in the sand was covering feeet in sand.

She has spent much of June traveling throughout Bergen County trying out all the different types of slides. We were fortunate to have Mimi, Papa, and Gigi come for a visit from Missouri. They came in time to see Horton the weekend it came out. Hannah had a great time during their visit.

"Horton Hears A Who" came out last week in theaters. We went to the premiere and again when Mimi and Grandpa, and Gigi were visiting. I think it was a fantastic movie, not that I am biased or anything.

This week Hannah has been finding small crevices to hide in; in between furniture and walls and today she discovered she can crawl into her cabinet (where we keep her tupperware). She was very proud of herself. Each day is full of new discoveries.

Finally, It Snowed!

We finally got some snow today. It wasn't a lot but we were determined to get outside and use Hannah's new sled. She liked the sledding part but wasn't too crazy about the excessive amount of clothing. The snowpants were probably not necessary since she never touched the snow! However, as usual, she was a trooper.

Hannah is drinking from a staw

This is a big week for Hannah and I. She is officially weaned from both a bottle and me! I never thought she was going to drink anything else besides water and my milk. Last week she was on strike and refusing the soy milk. Finally, late last week I tried giving her a cup with a straw and we had a breakthrough. She started drinking the soy milk. Friday was my last feeding, it was a big deal for both of us. However, Friday night I had my first pizza in 9 months in celebration of the end of breastfeeding (I had been off of dairy b/c of Hannah's dairy allergies). It was really good... boy did I miss cheese!

I am proud of Hannah, she is doing really well. Also, Scott's support for both of us has been great and helped make the process go smoothly.

Today we introduced crayons and paper to Hannah. She was very excited. I think Scott was even more excited. Hannah's favorite part was having us chase after her with a crayon in her hand. When she did sit still to draw, she had that focused face on like her daddy hard at work.

Superbowl!

Superbowl Sunday was fun! Hannah had her friends Ayla and Teddy over to help her cheer for the Giants. It was the first time Hannah and Ayla made each other laugh. It was pretty cute!

Hannah Feeds her Monkey

First of all, life is seeming normal again. Scott is back to a normal schedule. The best part is he gets to see Hannah in the morning and at night, which is such a treat.

This weekend Hannah started taking care of her monkey that her Aunt Kris and Uncle Jason gave her. She started by putting it in its bed/basket but now feeds it a milk bottle and puts a blanket on it. It has to be the cutest thing to watch. She continues to amaze us everyday. It was a much calmer weekend compared to last... thank goodness!

Grandpa Doc Saves the Day!

Hannah had her first major fall last night. It wasn't even such a major fall, it was just the way she fell that caused her to dislocate her elbow on her left arm. It took us a while to figure out what hurt her, her wrist, her fingers, her arm. Then we realized her arm was limp. We called my dad and he immediately knew what had happened so he came over. He was able to get her elbow back in place. She was so brave. Once the fear and pain went away she calmed down and by the end of the night she was crawling and laughing. It was scary and hard to watch her in pain but thank God Grandpa Doc was able to make it better and save us a trip to the emergency room. We learned that now she will be more susceptible to that type of injury. This is quite a common injury amongst kids 1 -4. FYI the main cause of this is pulling a child or lifting a child by their hands.

Let it Snow!

Hannah's sled from Grammy finally arrived today. It is beautiful. Hannah was so excited to slide around on it. Her only question was where is the snow. Now we are eager for it to snow so we can try it out.

Spring in January?

Last week we had such nice weather, one day it was in the 60's, so we walked to our park for the first time this year. We met our friends Katie and Teddy there to swing on the swings. We are looking forward to more warm days. It is not quite spring yet since today it was 5 degrees.

Hannah is Cruising

Hannah is very busy these days. She has been crawling for a couple of months but in the past month she has started to cruise. Her favorite is cruising around our ottoman but she is also enjoying walking with her shopping cart and baby carriage. Of course with this new mobility comes bumps and bruises but she is pretty cautious. We still think walking is in the distance which is fine with me.

Hannah Turns One!

After 3 birthday parties and many generous gifts and 3 rounds of cupcake eating, Hannah is officially one. Scott and I have agreed that next year there will only be one birthday party. Hannah was a trooper. At each celebration she enjoyed herself and actually ate her cardboard, frosted cupcake (egg, milk and soy free!) Between Christmas and her birthday she got pretty good at opening gifts.
